Nice, but it could use some twirling.

Phoebe Snow Dies At Age 58
Another 70's pop icon has passed. Legendary vocalist Phoebe Snow died this morning of a brain hemorrhage at the age of 58 after several months in a coma. The 1975 best new artist Grammy nominee had famously dropped out of the music business at the peak of her fame in order to care for her severely handicapped daughter. Snow did continue to make rare appearances and recordings. My favorite Phoebe Snow single, 1977's Shakey Ground, is not on YouTube for some reason. But below are two of her classics.

More trivia: Exterior shots of Tom's Diner, made famous by Suzanne Vega, were used for the diner on Seinfeld. (Source)
Punk Singer Poly Styrene Dies At 53
Poly Styrene, lead singer of the seminal 70's British punk band X-Ray Specs, has died of breast cancer at the age of 53. The band was best known for their hit single Oh Bondage, Up Yours, but I always liked the below track, which I believe was one of the first import 45s I ever bought. Only two months ago Styrene released her long-awaited comeback single, Virtual Boyfriend.

Amanda Lear - Chinese Walk
Back in the 70's, it was a rare night at a gay bar if you didn't hear at least one Amanda Lear song, especially if you were watching a drag show. Orlando's late legendary Miss P was particularly fond of Lear's smash, Enigma, which lives on my iPod to this day. Here's a new one from Lear, who is either 65 or 71, depending on which source you believe. Similarly, Lear, the longtime muse of Salvador Dali, is either transgender or she's not.

Eurovision 2011: Serbia's Nina
I've already posted all 42 entries for 2011, but since I'm picking Serbia to win, here's a just issued English-language production video for Nina's entry. It's very Swing Out Sister meets Basia and sounds just as great in Serbian.

Martha Wash - I've Got You
Weather Girl and former Sylvester back-up singer Martha Wash is back with a lovely non-dance pop number. I'm betting the remixes will be killer.

Stevie Nicks - Cheaper Than Free
With former Eurythmics member Dave Stewart. Lovely.
Former Boy Bander Joins Chippendales
We can totally use some fluffy news up in this joint today. Jeff Timmons, founding member of the platinum selling group 98 Degrees, will be joining the world famous Chippendales in Las Vegas as their Special Musical Guest Star and Emcee, where he will flex his vocal chords and muscles for four weekends only, May 12 through June 5, 2011 (Thursday through Sunday nights).RELATED: Last summer during Netroots Nation, Chippendales hosted me and several other gay activists. While the audience was 99% female, the staff and dancers were very welcoming to us. Recommended purely for the camp value. And the hot bods.

Daft Punk - Alive
I've never gotten into Daft Punk, but there's a smokin' hot guy in this clip and Towleroad notes "the homoerotic tension runs high."

Eurovision: Macedonia's Vlatko Ilievski
Officially competing as the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia due to a long-running dispute over Greece's region with the same name. Rusinka is Macedonian for "Russian girl."
