Openly gay former NBA player John Amaechi feels Kobe Bryant's "fucking faggot" apology was insincere and that the NBA's fine was appropriate. Amaechi came out in 2007 after his retirement. He remains the only openly gay current or former NBA player.

Quote Of The Day - Ted Nugent
"If the NBA had any true gay convictions, the NBA should host a Homosexual Night. During halftime, the homosexuals could come down on the court, hold hands and prance around the court to music by the Village People. The NBA could then give each homosexual a pink basketball as a symbol of solidarity. Like other professional athletes, numerous NBA players have done all kinds of things on and off the court that do not cast a positive light on themselves or the NBA, but they have not been fined $100,000 by the league. Homosexuals are a protected class in America. If you think what happened to Mr. Bryant was a travesty, just wait until you see what homosexuals in the military do when they claim they have been mistreated because of their sexual orientation." - Washed up rocker Ted Nugent, writing for the Moonie Times.

Photo Of The Day - Pink Thundersticks
Thousands of Brazilian volleyball fans showed up with pink "thundersticks" emblazoned with the name of an openly gay player after he'd been taunted with chants of "Faggot, faggot!" by fans of an opposing team. Visit Matt Algren's Asterisk for video and more amazing photos.
NBA To Partner With GLAAD
GLAAD and the NBA today announced a joint effort to quell homophobia in professional basketball. This new partnership arises out of an incident in which Los Angeles Laker star Kobe Bryant was captured by network television as he called a referee a "fucking faggot." Bryant is appealing the $100K fine imposed by the NBA for his outburst. Via press release:
“In light of this slur, there is a real opportunity to build support for our community and educate fans of Kobe Bryant, the Los Angeles Lakers, and the NBA about the use of such words,†said GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios. “The Los Angeles Lakers have taken a positive step and we look forward to working with them to create messages from players and coaches that combat bullying. We also suggested and will continue to advocate for zero tolerance policies for anti-gay slurs at home games, similar to what the New York Yankees adopted last year.†In addition to the LA Lakers, NBA executives have agreed to meet with GLAAD to discuss ways to send a message about the power of such words to the league’s audience, many of whom are young people, parents or educators.Lakers spokesman John Black: "We appreciate the input we've received from GLAAD the past two days and will look forward to working with them on ways to help educate ourselves and our fans, and to help keep language like this out of our game."

Quote Of The Day - Ben Cohen
"It is disappointing to see this. As a professional athlete and rugby World Cup champion, I understand the heat and passion of competition at the highest levels. But we must all remember that strong bodies must be balanced with strong characters, and works toward that end. Our positions as role models demand it." - Straight ally Ben Cohen, saying he's disappointed with Kobe Bryant.
Kobe Bryant To Appeal "Faggot" Fine
Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant announced today that he intends to appeal the $100K fine imposed by the NBA yesterday for his calling a referee a "fucking faggot" during Tuesday night's game.Bryant, talking from Sacramento on the Mason & Ireland show on ESPN 710 Radio in Los Angeles, said the appeal is "standard protocol," but also took responsibility for his choice of words said "out of frustration during the heat of the game." "The comment that I made, even though it wasn't meant in the way it was perceived to be, is nonetheless wrong, so it's important to own that," Bryant said. He added, "The concern that I have is for those that follow what I say and are inspired by how I play or look to me as a role model or whatever it is, for them not to take what is said as a message of hate or a license to degrade or embarrass or tease. That's something I don't want to see happen. It's important for me to talk about that issue because it"s OK to be who you are, and I do'n't want this issue to be a part of something or to magnify something that shouldn't be."

NBA Fines Kobe Bryant $100,000
In a move the Human Rights Campaign calls "unprecedented," the NBA has fined superstar Kobe Bryant $100,000 for calling a referee a "fucking faggot" during last night's game. Via press release:
While Bryant acknowledged the outburst earlier today and said in a statement it did “not reflect my feelings toward the gay and lesbian communities,†he failed to apologize or to take full responsibility for the homophobic slur. This afternoon, the NBA and Commissioner Stern issued a strong condemnation of Bryant’s action and in an unprecedented move, fined the Lakers’ superstar $100,000. “We applaud Commissioner Stern and the NBA for not only fining Bryant but for recognizing that slurs and derogatory comments have no place on the basketball court or in society at large, “ said Joe Solmonese, HRC President. “We hope such swift and decisive action will send a strong and universal message that this kind of hateful outburst is simply inexcusable no matter what the context.â€
Kobe Bryant Calls Ref "Fucking Faggot"
Last night NBA superstar Kobe Bryant called a referee a "fucking faggot" after receiving a technical foul. The Human Rights Campaign reacts:
UPDATE: Bryant has apologized. "What I said last night should not be taken literally. My actions were out of frustration during the heat of the game, period. The words expressed do NOT reflect my feelings towards the gay and lesbian communities and were NOT meant to offend anyone."
"What a disgrace for Kobe Bryant to use such horribly offensive and distasteful language, especially when millions of people are watching. Hopefully Mr. Bryant will recognize that as a person with such fame and influence, the use of such language not only offends millions of LGBT people around the world, but also perpetuates a culture of discrimination and hate that all of us, most notably Mr. Bryant, should be working to eradicate."JMG reader Sean Chapin provides the below clip.

Olympian Carl Lewis To Run For NJ Senate
Nine-time Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis will today announce his intention to run for the New Jersey Senate as a Democrat. Lewis emailed a media advisory to reporters saying he will be giving a speech at 2 p.m. at the Old County Courthouse in Mt. Holly to "make an announcement regarding his political plans." Democrats have been in talks with Lewis about a potential state Senate run in the 8th Legislative District against incumbent Dawn Addiego (R-Burlington). Lewis, a 49-year-old Medford resident, has never run for office. The 8th District, where Lewis will run, leans Republican. But Democrats feel that a famous and wealthy candidate like Lewis could make the seat competitive.Although he's one of the most famous athletes in the world, rumors about Lewis' sexuality have been blamed for his lack of post-Olympics endorsement deals. Lewis has always denied that he is gay.

San Francisco Giants...Sports News Alert! Cardinals nab it! Sunday April 10th!
Word out of the AT & T ballpark a few moments ago is that the Cardinals nabbed it in their vigorous fight against the Giants on their home turf.
The World Champions were unable to complete their first 3-game sweep of the Cardinals since 2001.
The loss dulled the spirit of the frenzied fans in the crowded stands a tad - but they're a hearty lot - and capable of riding the rollercoast ride ahead.
Hold onto your baseball caps, kids, it's going to be a bumpy night or two ahead on the slippery slope to the 2nd World Championship!
News at 11!

Trevor Bayne...rocky-road inspired Ice-Cream Sundae! Daytona 500 star celebrates at Ghiradelli Square! San Francisco!
What is the world's favorite flavor?
The answer was on the tip of Trevor Bayne's tongue yesterday, when he swaggered into Ghiradelli Square in San Francisco, to whip up a scrumptious mouth-watering ice-cream Sundae in his honor.
Chocolate, of course!
Well, when it came to the studly race-car driver (who just snagged the Daytona 500), for starters!
Shortly after the man-of-the-hour was ushered into the historic tourist site, he quickly rustled up the main ingredients for his dessert-of-choice, which consisted of generous scoops of rich chocolate, a dollop or two of delicious rocky-road, and flavorful chocolate chip ice-cream - topped with all the delicious trimmings such as whipped cream, a cherry on top - you name it!
Since Bayne roared over the finish line this past week - the youngest driver ever to nab the coveted prize (at a mere twenty years-of-age) - he has been on a wild merry-go-round that has taken the kid from ESPN studios in Connecticut, to Chicago, and then on to the Bay area where he alighted amidst a lot of fanfare.
Fans couldn't help but spy the sparkler on his finger, either!
Of course, I am referring to the pricey Daytona 500 ring, he scooped up for his efforts on the slippery-slope to success.
The sexy circuit competitor joked that he wears the novelty item to bed when he tucks in each starry-eyed night.
"I was scared I'd wake up in the middle of the night and it would all be a dream. I left it on so I could look down and see it."
And, you thought your life was a potential nightmare, eh?
Congrats Trevor!
Fans may snap up Trevor Bayne Sundae @ Giradelli Square!

Christina Aguilera Messed Up Singing The National Anthem in Super Bowl
Christina Aguilera messed up in singing the National Anthem - The Star Spangled Banner" before the kick off of the Green Bay - Pittsburg game. What a bad luck for Xtina! She was doing well, with that powerful until it was time for her to be belting "“O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming,” she sung “what so proudly we watched, at the twilight’s last reaming.” A case of minor amnesia..lol.. She forgot the lyrics! Darn!
If you have not seen the full video of Christina Aguilera's performance, check it out here in my earlier article. The full video is embedded. See for yourself.
But still Kudos to Christina Aguilera! It ain't easy to sing in front of thousands of people..

Super Bowl XLV Live Stream?
A terrible headache prevented me from blogging yesterday. It must have been the product of my tiring, super exhausting travel. I've been wanting to blog about Super Bowl XLV live stream, now that it is about to take place. forgus beylan is against piracy and copyright infringement, so this post will surely not promote illegal stuff related to Super Bowl XLV live streaming, although I might touch on these indirectly. What I will try to do here is to discuss the possibilities available to watch Super Bowl 45 live streaming free and not free.
Online, you must have noticed many websites and blogs coming out in the results for "Super Bowl XLV live streaming" and "Super Bowl 45 live stream" and "watch Super Bowl XLV online". Most of these sites are merely discussing about Super Bowl 45/ Super Bowl 2011. Most do not offer live video streaming, but you can find sites/blogs suggesting they will stream Super Bowl XLV on their site. Believe me or not, there is no live streaming free for Super Bowl 2011, unless FOX Sports offers to broadcast Super Bowl 2011 live streaming free on tv. Although there is no official word to confirm this on Fox's end.
There are only two confirmed ways to watch Super Bowl 45:
1. Via Pay Per View
2. Watch it live and personally.
Unconfirmed, not necessarily legal ways to watch Super Bowl XLV:
1. Via streaming websites- JustinTv, SopCast, UsTream
2. Via websites and blogs
3. YahooSports
Confirmed way to watch and listen to videos/snippets of Super Bowl 2011:
1. Via Fox Sports
2. Via radio broadcasts
However, if Fox Sports decides to broadcast Super Bowl XLV streaming free on their official website, we might just be able to watch Super Bowl 2011 full coverage absolutely free. We shall wait for any updates on this one.
