Obama Releases Birth Certificate, Birthers Leap Out Of Tall Buildings Nationwide

Talking Points Memo:
It's surreal and weird and faintly ridiculous that it's come to this. But this morning the White House caught the press corps seriously off guard by handing out copies of the anti-Holy Grail of birtherism, the fabled 'long form' birth certificate.
The president will speak to this issue in a press conference this morning. So far there hasn't been a peep from Donald Trump or the idiots at World Net Daily. Heh.

UPDATE: World Net Daily reacts predictably:
If the document proves valid, it could answer the questions raised by those who have alleged he was not actually born in Hawaii. But it also could prove his ineligibility because of its references to his father. Some of the cases challenging Obama have explained that he was a dual citizen through his father at his birth, and they contend the framers of the Constitution excluded dual citizens from qualifying as natural born citizens.

Levi Johnston Readies Palin Tell-All

This fall Levi Johnston will release Deer in the Headlights: My Life in Sarah Palin's Crosshairs, a tell-all book of his time with Mama Grizzly.
"I want to tell the truth about my close relationship with the Palins," Johnston, 20, says in a statement released by his publisher. "My sense of Sarah and my perplexing fall from grace – how I feel and what I've learned." Johnston adds: "I'm doing this for me, for my boy Tripp and for the country.
The timing of the book's release should prove amusing, as Palin may be officially launching her 2012 campaign by then.

Another Obama Hint On Gay Marriage?

Much was made of President Obama's statement late last year that his position on same-sex marriage was "evolving." At a San Francisco fundraiser yesterday, another possible hint on that evolution may have been dropped.
Obama was talking about how his work is not finished. He said it would take more than one term "for us to finish everything we need to do." As he was talking about the unfinished work left to do, someone shouted out, "gay marriage!" Obama said--as if that person had just proved his point-- "our work is not finished." So, is Obama saying gay marriage is part of that 'unfinished business'?

Sarah Palin Launches New Site

It looks like Sarah Palin is totally seriously planning to run for president. The New York Times weighs in:
It was only about two weeks ago when deteriorating favorability ratings captured in an NBC News/Wall Street Journal Poll, among other things, had dampened expectations that Ms. Palin would run. As the NBC morning column “First Read” asked rhetorically then, “Time to write Palin’s 2012 political obituary?” But her speech in Madison and this latest Web activity seem to have reversed pundits’ suspicions that she was dropping her presidential ambitions, evidenced by the Politico column Playbook declaring Monday “SARAH PALIN RAMPS UP.”
Palin/Trump 2012! The reality show ticket! Snooki can be campaign manager!

Frothy Mix To Glenn Beck: States Should Be Allowed To Criminalize Gay Sex

Former Sen. Rick "Frothy Mix" Santorum went on Glenn Beck's radio show yesterday to renew his call to criminalize gay sex. Santorum was responding to former Sen. Alan Simpson's epic denouncement of homophobic Republicans.
There were no “cruel, cruel” remarks. All I can ponder is that Alan Simpson is talking about a comment that I made, which I paraphrased, almost word for word, but paraphrased a Supreme Court justice in a case called Lawrence v. Texas, before that case came out, which had to do with, as you know, a Supreme Court case on the issue of sodomy, and I said that if you have -- if the Supreme Court changes the legal standard to say that sexual -- consensual sexual activity is now a constitutional right, then we open up the gates for all sorts of consensual activity. It’s not homophobic. It’s a legal argument, and it’s a correct legal argument. In fact, that’s exactly what’s happening. We went from Lawrence v. Texas to now a constitutional right to same-sex marriage and they’re going into a constitutional right to polyamorous relationships. This is the slippery slope that we’re heading down, and I stand by it.

ARIZONA: Birther Bill Passes

Arizona's GOP-dominated legislature has passed its bill requiring all presidential candidates to provide proof of being born in the United States in order to have their names placed on the ballot.
Lawmakers in 10 states introduced birther bills in their state legislatures at the beginning of this year's sessions, but the Arizona bill is so far the only one to make it to a governor's desk. The measure had failed twice in the last two years to make its way through the legislature, but this time was shepherded by a compliant Republican leadership that had not been eager to advance the issue before. The Republican speaker of the state House supported the bill this time, he told The Arizona Republic, because he believes it does not "add to or detract from the qualifications for president as stated in the United States Constitution." Brewer has not yet indicated where she stands on the bill, but has five days to choose whether to sign or veto it. If Brewer decides to not take a position and let the five-day period lapse, the bill will become law.
As you might expect, World Net Daily is doing ecstatic backflips and is directing readers to a website calling on Brewer to sign the bill.
