Elton John...Hosts Saturday Night Live tonight! Leon Russell album collaboration!

When Elton John strolled onto the stage of the Jimmy Fallon show the other night, the reaction from the adoring audience - totally in awe - was heartfelt.

Within minutes of alighting on the podium, fans and guests alike, were on their feet stomping and hollering.

And on the heels of the outpouring of love, there was a standing ovation!

After all, it's not often that a common "Joe" or two - even a quirky talk-show host - weasle their way into the presence of a musical legend like the great Elton John.

In spite all the in-your-face attention, Mr. John (!) was pretty low-key in the aftermath.

And, the celebrated Brit didn't look half-bad in his advancing years, either.

Sir Elton sported a chic well-tailored black suit, which was teamed with an ultramarine dress shirt (open at the collar), with no bling to speak of.

At one point, he treated the audience to an impromptu performance of - "Your Song" - after Fallon determined that was a "favorite" tune he wished he had recorded years ago.

Speaking of albums, Elton is currently in the throes of releasing his 13th LP, which features Leon Russell and T. Bone Burnett (at the helm?).

The collaboration with Russell should come as no surprise to die-hard fans familiar with El's roots (which go way back in the industry).

"The first night I performed in Los Angeles Leon was in the 2nd or third row. I spotted him right away and was nervous. Would he like my material," he wondered to himself.

In fact, the long-haired musical genius was so impressed with Elton, that he took him under his wing and back to New York to perform at the Fillmore, where he was summarily introduced to Bob Dylan.

"Everyone was so great to me when I first arrived in America," the aging Lothario with an eye for good-looking studs fondly recalled.

When Fallon asked how he felt about GLEE featuring his songs on their hit show this past week, he was quick on the uptake, too.

"It is so flattering when people play your music.  I even get excited when I step into an elevator and hear a piece of musak featuring one of my hits."

And, he had a message for up-and-coming bands, who pooh-poohed the notion of having their music showcased on a top-rated comedy-drama like GLEE.

"Lighten up, you as**holes," he screamed at the viewing audience at home, as the audience roared in approval below the footlights.

Is El slowing down a tad?

Just maybe; after all, he confided that he is not one to traipse around town to all the exclusive parties or even try to make "the scene".

"I prefer to stay at home with David (his male lover) and the boys."

Hold on a minute, your naughty folks.

When he says "boys" - the hit-maker doesn't mean "toy-boys" - at all.

No, Sir.

Of course, he is referring to his two adopted sons.

By the way, tonight Sir Elton will be hosting Saturday Night Live, in addition to being the musical guest.

If the promos previewing this past week are any indication, I expect folks should tune in.

The late-night off-the-wall comedy variety show is bound to be a hoot with Elton at the helm!

And, keep your eye out for the documentary on Elton, lensed by Cameron Crowe.

Cheers!

Britney Spears...San Francisco Concert! Castro shopkeepers complain!

When news broke that Britney Spears was slated to appear at an outdoor concert for free in the Castro District all the residents of the trendy community were ecstatic!

In spite of the obvious coupe for the City by the Bay - a handful of retailers in the area - complained that a swarm of concert-goers would overwhelm the streets, cause traffic jams, and clog a pathway to their front doors.

Imagine that!

What an absurd selfish notion!

In fact - Good Morning America (who is hosting the free event) - not only intends to broadcast the taped performance on March 29th, but also feature a jazzy "travelogue" (with the specific aim of boosting tourism in the picturesque European-style destination city).

Before all the "star dust" settles, there will be an avalanche of National exposure - not only for the LGBT community - but also for the delightful town with a truckload of charms to offer the savvy world traveller.

Scott Wiener (District 8 Supervisor) gushed to local reporters that it was thrilling day for the Castro District (in spite of the whining of the party-poopers).

"It will bring out a lot of traffic that day. It is a great promotion for San Francisco," he chirped, excitedly.

Indeed!

Unfortunately, due to alleged security issues, the concert was moved to the Civic Center.

The ABC special event will tape tomorrow, Sunday March 27th (between 12 noon and 1 p.m.), and broadcast on Tuesday, March 29th (2011).

The concert has been timed to be air in tandem with Britney's new sizzling-hot album "Femme Fatale".

See 'ya there!

Britney loves Castro District!

Glee...racy scenes with nudity cause uproar! Parental guidance?

An uproar erupted this past week when racy images - featuring naked nubile young flesh and binge-drinking - spewed out over the broadcast airwaves in a promo promoting an upcoming episode of the popular night-time hit GLEE.

Has the ground-breaking bill-of-fare gone too far in its bid to snare ratings during the family hour?

Tune in tonight - and take a gander at the smutty material that may be corrupting the youth of today - according to a posse of critics.

Parental guidance suggested!

Glee..."out" gay teens! Plots ripped from headlines! Charming Entertainment!

Talented actor plays "out" role!

I was channel-surfing last evening - when I unexpectedly stumbled upon the latest scintillating installment of the highly-rated TV musical/comedy - "Glee".

Within minutes, it struck me that the well-written thought-provoking piece of fiction - broadcast during the family hour - appeared to be mirroring life itself.

Indeed, at least one controversial theme (handled with kid gloves in a gay-themed sub-plot) was literally ripped from screaming headlines, to its credit.

No stale old fag jokes in this hip creative offering, that's for sure!

I recalled a phrase that actors used as a coded reference to "queer" male actors in the business on the sly way back in the fifties (era of screen idols Tab Hunter & Rock Hudson).

"He's musical, 'ya know?"

Well, there are enough show tunes on "Glee" each week, to fathom that inevitability from the get-go!

Right off-the-bat, I was a little put-off by some of the language, though.

In one unsettling scene - two attractive gal pals chatting up a storm about an upcoming competition - joked about being a couple of nasty "bit**es" to be reckoned with.

The sentiments rolled off the tongues of these teen babes so easily that it jolted my sensibilities.

Later, one camera panned in on two female friends of the female hugging each other on a bed.

Say what?

When one pretty black character lightly teased the other for being a (lipstick?) lesbo, she giggled a little, just before swearing (cross her heart) that there was nothing behind the "cuddly" cop-a-feel.

"Sometimes I just need a warm body to hold onto," she joked, in so many words.

Me, too, honey bun!

As we used to say when I was a kid:

"Lesbie-friends and go homo."

Uh-huh.

What  messages - blatant or subliminal - are being promoted on "Glee"?

About mid-way into the highly-entertaining segment, the students were asked to buddy-up, and perform a duet for an upcoming talent night.

One "out" male student - obviously, so - hatched a scheme to approach a blond cutie in class to take up the task in a bold-faced effort to sidle up closer with the hope of a potential romp in the hay.

When a teacher called him up on his deceitful intent, he drummed up a hilarious alternative, to get out of the fix.

"I'll perform a duet with myself," he huffed, to all within earshot.

Musical masturbation, per chance?

The next best thing, I guess.

The talented triple-threat whipped up a dazzling dance routine - based on the novel one in "Victoria Victoria" that Julie Andrews performed to theatrical perfection - with the intention of playing both the male & female parts!

In the next exploitative moment, the shows producers sent the lad into the shower room, where he promptly informed  the object of his desire (naked from the waist up) that he was off the hook.

Not before he has informed him, however, that he didn't buy the stud's so-called "straight act".

"My gay-dar is quite good, 'ya know," he asserted earlier, in the twinkling of an eye.

Actually, the young blond actor who played the character, reminded me a lot of the one who starred in the popular hit - Queer as Folk - which was shot in my hometown (Toronto) a few moons ago.

Of course, Glee is tame by comparison.

"Queer" was so graphic and in-your-face and ground-breaking in respect to gritty gay themes.

A peck on the cheek is about all viewers will be salaciously treated to on "Glee".

Pity!

After all, I have the hots for Jane Lynch

News at 11!
