Tron Legacy...sneak preview dazzles fans! Sony 3D Bootcamp thrills filmmakers!

In spite of the fact a 3D filmmaking seminar was kicking off at an un-Godly hour - I was still wiping the cobwebs of sleep out of my own eyes as I hopped on the Metro to attend the much-anticipated event this morning at approximately 10 a.m. - a frenzied crowd of film buffs stormed Mann's Chinese Theatre to snatch up a plush seat for the sold-out event.

The boot camp on 3D filmmaking - which was hosted by Buzz Hays (Senior VP of Sony) caught the imagination of a posse of newbies (and film aficionados, too) intrigued by the latest state-of-the-art animation techniques (and cutting-edge software to facilitate the shaping of their nifty futuristic projects).

As chief instructor at Sony, Hays has been a dedicated pioneer in the field.

The visionary down-to-earth executive was responsible for overseeing the adaptation of standard 3D stereoscopic versions for the IMAX 3D and Real D platforms.

Die-hard fans - and industry-insiders - touted his stellar skills in the past for the adaptation of BEOWULF (Robert Zemeckis) - for example.

I reviewed that film - starring Angelina Jolie - when it was first released.

Fabulous filmmaking!

In addition to the lecture, Disney surprised the guests in attendance with a sneak preview of dazzling clips from the upcoming release "TRON LEGACY".

WOW!

Fans were transported to seventh heaven (and literally went GaGa) when they were treated to four key scenes from the animated thriller (due for release in December).

Ladies, wait 'til 'ya catch a gander at the sexy young male actor in the lead!

Talk about swoon material.

News at 11!

The Envelope...screening series! James Franco, Winona Ryder & Natalie Portman to appear!

Once again, the much-anticipated film screening series - The Envelope - is slated to kick-off at the Landmark Theatre in West Los Angeles (CA).

The high-profile red-carpet-style event - sponsored by the Los Angeles Times - is scheduled to run November thru December.

At press time it was announced that - James Franco (127 Hours), Winona Ryder (Black Swan) & Natalie Portman (Black Swan) - have committed to appear at the popular Q & A sessions to follow the screenings (which I expect will play to packed houses).

Director Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan) and screenwriter Simon Beaufoy are expected to put in appearances as well much to the delight of theatre-going fans.

Last year, I attended the thought-provoking film presentation, and was fortunate to sneak peak a handful of top-notch flicks (Fantastic Mr. Fox, Hurt Locker, Crazy Heart, District 9, and Young Victoria)  before their wide release later in the year.

Entertaining interviews with Jeff Bridges, T-Bone Burnett, Kathryn Bigelowr, and Jeremy Renner were thoroughly enriching moments which I captured in posts in the days that followed.
